Frequently asked questions
The answers people ask us first.
If you don’t see your question below, email hello@famtech.net and we’ll answer it — and probably add it to this page.
Is FamTech a law firm?
No. FamTech is a software company. We build document-preparation tools and calculators. We do not provide legal advice, legal representation, or legal opinions.
Can I use FamTech without a lawyer?
Yes. Many of our users are pro se — representing themselves. Our tools produce court-ready documents and provide plain-English guidance, but they do not substitute for legal advice. If your situation is complex or contested, consult an attorney.
What kinds of documents does FamTech produce?
Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs), marital settlement agreements, support and custody orders, discovery requests, subpoenas, and companion worksheets. See our Services page for the full list.
Do the calculators work for every plan type?
Our Calc Suite covers defined-benefit pensions (present value, coverture), defined-contribution plans (rate of return, marital share), government and military retirement, and coverture-and-equalization math. Some very unusual plan structures may require attorney or actuary review.
Will the court accept a document I produced with FamTech?
Our documents are drafted to meet the requirements of most major plans and family courts. Every jurisdiction has its own filing procedures, though — we tell you what we know, but you (or your attorney) are responsible for confirming local requirements.
How is my data protected?
See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown. Short version: your case data is encrypted, isolated per account, and never sold. We only use it to run the software you asked us to run.
Can attorneys use FamTech in their practice?
Yes. Many of our users are family-law practitioners who use FamTech to automate drafting and calculation work that would otherwise consume associate hours.
Important: FamTech is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, legal representation, or legal opinions. Our platform automates document assembly based on the information you provide. If you need legal advice, please consult a licensed attorney in your state.
